After I published the printable Advent Calendar activities yesterday I got a few emails asking about some of the activities, and how to do handprint angels was the most popular question. So as per request, here is how to make handprint angels. As I do other activities with the kids I will put up some posts about them.
Handprint angels are a really fun and easy Christmas art activity, and woud be great for home-made Christmas cards, or a row of them could be hung on a string for a Christmas angel garland. I just love any kind of kids handprint art, and these are especially cute!
Press your hand into the paint colour for the angel’s dress. Then press your hand onto the middle of the paper. Keep your fingers neatly together. For good handprint results a light even coverage of paint works best.
Press both hands into yellow paint for the wings. Make the yellow handprints on either side of the blue one, and slightly lower down. Turn the paper so the handprints face downwards. Use a fingertip dipped in the dress colour to add the arms.
Using a finger dipped into pink paint, go around and around in a circle for the angel’s head. Add little hands at the end of the arm with a fingertip of the pink paint.
With your fingertip paint a squiggly line with orange paint for the hair. Then add a yellow sem-circle above the head for a halo. Using the tiniest amount of paint on your fingertip add eyes, nose and mouth.
The angel in the photos was done by my Mr Four. He had too much paint on his hands for clearly defined handprints. I much prefer to show examples actually done by my kids rather than a “perfect” one done by me.
Happy painting!

That is such a great idea! Most kids love handpainting and to be able to create something so simple will definitely entice them to do more creations!

These are lovely, I bet if you made quite a few, you could string them together to make a garland

Very cute and neat idea to use the handprints for wings. I also try to use the art from my kids. Sometimes my 2 year old only musters a brown scribble- but it’s what he did. People should know that. haha!
Thanks!

Thank you so much for linking these angels up! I need to post some pics on your fb page of ours. This was a great activity. I think my 2 year old’s fave part was having his hand swiped with yellow paint.
